hemp oil and hair growth

10 hemp seed oil products for hair

We include products we think are useful for our readers. If you buy through links on this page, we may earn a small commission. Here’s our process.

Hemp seed oil, which is extractable from the seeds of the hemp plant, may have some benefits for hair care. Hemp seed oil is a dark green oil that manufacturers make by cold-pressing these seeds or using solvents to extract their oil.

Hemp seeds are the fruit of the hemp plant. They consist of 30–35% oil.

Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant. It does not contain nearly as much delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the ingredient that causes the “high” that people associate with smoking weed, as other varieties.

Hemp is sometimes referred to as “industrial hemp,” because this is its primary use.

Indeed, humans have cultivated hemp for thousands of years, using it to make rope, sails, food, fabric, and medicinal products. The use of hemp seed oil for hair care is hardly new, but it has seen increasing popularity in recent years.

Keep reading to learn more about hemp seed oil and how it may benefit the hair.

Scientists have not yet identified the specific mechanism by which using hemp seed oil for hair might produce its benefits. However, there are data to show that hair somehow incorporates hemp seed oil.

For example, researchers found that after study participants used hemp oil for hair treatments for 6 weeks (by applying it directly to their hair), 89% of hair samples tested positive for one or more cannabis constituents.

Although scientific testing has not yet backed up these claims, the following are some of the ways in which hemp seed oil could benefit the hair:

  • by promoting hair growth
  • by moisturizing the hair
  • by thickening the hair
  • by preventing water loss to protect the hair
  • by reviving damaged hair
  • by adding shine

Hemp seeds are rich in polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, in what some experts call the perfect ratio. This may contribute to the many potential health benefits that people attribute to hemp and hemp seed oil.

Some studies have suggested that hemp seed oil can help relieve the symptoms of dry skin and itchiness in atopic dermatitis. Another study found that hemp seed oil could be helpful in treating acne.

Some of the alleged benefits of hemp seed oil for hair may be due to its positive impact on the skin, including the scalp.

Researchers have also found that hemp seed oil may help protect people from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity. The anti-inflammatory properties of hemp seed oil that some scientists say may help protect against chronic conditions could also contribute to hair health.

The composition of hemp seeds provides some clues as to the source of their benefits. Indeed, hemp seeds contain many important nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, including:

  • gamma-linolenic acid
  • phytosterols
  • vitamin D
  • vitamin E
  • carotene
  • chlorophyll
  • calcium
  • magnesium

Consumer products that incorporate hemp seed oil for hair care range from shampoos and conditioners with low concentrations of the oil to pure hemp seed oil that people can apply directly to the hair and scalp.

The following sections will look at some of these products in more detail.

Organic Pure OilINC: Hemp seed oil shampoo and conditioner

These products are formulated to strengthen, moisturize, and restore all hair types.

The manufacturer states that the products feature a blend of hemp seed oil, hemp proteins, and hemp extracts to promote shine, reduce frizz, and support dry ends.

This shampoo contains hemp seed oil, coconut oil, nana leaf, and plant-based cleansers.

The manufacturer claims that the fresh, woody scent of nana leaf promotes relaxation and a sense of balance.

Maui Moisture: Fortifying and hemp seed oil hydrating vegan shampoo

The manufacturers designed this shampoo to prevent breakage in dry hair.

The formula includes aloe vera, hemp seed oil, and cacao butter to improve hair strength while keeping it soft.

Wellness Premium: Organic hemp seed oil hair serum

The manufacturer formulated this hair serum to provide all hair types with the strength and protection necessary to handle heat from styling products.

The cold-pressed hemp seed oil in this product provides important vitamins and minerals.

OKAY: Hemp seed and shea leave-in conditioner

The manufacturer claims that this leave-in conditioner promotes hair growth and prevents future hair breakage.

It does this by moisturizing and strengthening each strand.

Hempz: Original herbal deep conditioner and hydrating hair mask

The manufacturer states that this hair mask revives dry hair, using a mix of hemp seed oil, shea butter, pomegranate extract, and cogon grass extract.

This lightweight conditioner, scented with grapefruit and peach, may help hydrate hair and leave it soft and lustrous.

Wellness Premium: Organic hemp seed oil intensive hair mask

The manufacturer recommends this hair mask for thin to wavy hair.

It uses cold-pressed hemp seed oil, vitamins, and keratin to repair damage from the sun and chemical processes.

People should apply it after washing their hair, leave it on for 5–60 minutes, then wash it out to reveal softer, healthier hair.

Herbal Essences: Hair oil mist, hemp seed oil and aloe

This product may help fight frizz and tangles while hydrating and moisturizing.

It contains hemp seed oil, aloe vera, and botanicals that the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (in the United Kingdom) endorse.

Shea Moisture: Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil lush length conditioner

This conditioner supports thicker and healthier hair with a combination of Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil, horsetail extract, and ginseng root.

The manufacturer claims that the hemp seed oil contains no THC or cannabidiol.

Sephora Collection: Multipurpose oil, hemp seed

This product can nourish, moisturize, and soothe the hair and skin. The manufacturer recommends it for the hair.

To use, apply it before shampooing or apply directly to dry hair for hydration.

People seeking hair care alternatives to products that contain hemp seed oil can choose from a number of different products.

Shampoos, for example, can prevent damage to the hair while cleansing and treating the scalp. Manufacturers can formulate them to address everything from dandruff and greasy hair to frizz.

That said, people with frizzy hair should avoid using harsh shampoos, as these can make the problem worse.

Conditioners protect the hair by mimicking its natural outer layer. They can also make hair easier to comb, which reduces the risk of damage, minimizes frizz, and makes it easier to manage.

People can also use other oils for hair care, such as olive oil, mineral oil, sunflower oil, and coconut oil. Researchers have found that coconut oil could prevent protein loss for both healthy and damaged hair.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommend that people let their hair type determine their hair care practices. For example, a person might only use products designed specifically for their hair type, wash oily hair more often, or use conditioner regularly while concentrating on the tips of the hair.

Hemp seed oil may have beneficial effects on the hair. Learn about these potential benefits, as well as some hemp seed oil-based hair products, in this article.

Hemp Hookahzz Releases 40 mg and 24 mg CBD E-Liquid, a Healthier Vaping Choice and Compelling Alternative to Medical Marijuana

Made in the USA with natural ingredients, Hemp Hookahzz’ new e-liquids offers a generous dose of Cannabidiol, the therapeutic ingredient in hemp, without the psychoactive effects of marijuana

CARLSBAD, Calif. , March 26 , 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Hemp Hookahzz , makers of Cannabidiol (CBD) infused e-liquids, announced the release of new e-liquid lines that pack 40 mg and 24 mg of CBD hemp oil. Produced at food-grade quality just like Hookahzz’ original 18 mg CBD e-liquid, these stronger versions combine organic CBD, Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and the amino acid GABA without added propylene glycol to provide a rich yet smooth hit. Made in the U.S. at an FDA approved facility and legal in all 50 states, the new e-liquids are a compelling choice for people who want the therapeutic benefits of CBD without the psychoactive effects of medical marijuana.

“Our new e-liquids offer the best combination of potency and affordability that e-cig users will find on the market,” said Janell Thompson , co-founder and Vice President of Hemp Hookahzz. “Raising the CBD concentration was important to us because high concentration CBD and cannabis products are sought after by the general public and many patients in need. We want people to be able to safely and legally experiment with CBD in their personal health regimen. Cannabis is not a one dimensional substance. There are better alternatives to smoking medical marijuana, and some of the best applications depend on higher doses of CBD.”

Hookahzz’ CBD e-liquids offer a unique value to e-cig users who seek a healthier hit with pharma-grade CBD. In contrast to medical marijuana, which contains high-THC strains of cannabis, Hemp Hookahzz’ CBD comes from high-CBD, low-THC hemp. Organic, kosher and vegan, the hemp is sourced from sustainable farms in Germany , Denmark and other European countries. The CBD e-liquids are legal in 50 states and 42 countries.

Hookahzz produces e-liquids with natural ingredients and quality standards that no other producers have matched. Hookahzz e-liquids are all VG (vegetable glycerin) based, and unlike the overwhelming majority of e-liquid producers, Hookahzz adds no propylene glycol (PG), a flavoring additive found in polyester, plastics and antifreeze. In addition, Hookahzz e-liquids are free of the roughly 6,000 chemicals that make cigarettes so harmful – not to mention the smoke, ash and unpleasant smell.

Two additional characteristics differentiate Hookahzz’ e-liquids from the usual, foreign-made alternatives. First, they have an alkaline pH, whereas the majority of e-liquids on market are acidic. Many e-cig users report unpleasant side effects from inhaling acidic e-liquids such as throat irritation and headaches. Second, Hookahzz e-liquids include GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), an amino acid and neurotransmitter often taken as a supplement to lower blood pressure, relieve anxiety, manage ADHD and retain muscle tone, among other purposes.

Hemp Hookahzz 40 mg and 24 mg CBD E-liquids are currently available in three flavors: Fresh Mintzz, Pink Diva and Melon Madnezz. Additional flavors – Tropical and Custard Pudding – will be released in early April. The 40 mg and 24 mg CBD e-liquids are available in two nicotine strengths, 12 mg or 0 mg. The e-liquids are compatible with any low voltage rechargeable vaping pen.

can you mail weed

Legally-Blunt

Posted by Meital Manzuri, Esq. | Jan 20, 2017 | 7 Comments

As the California legal marijuana marketplace grows, both sellers and consumers are increasingly wondering if it is possible to legally mail marijuana within the United States. The answer is a simple and resounding no. Importantly, this holds true regardless of whether the shipment origin or destination have laws legalizing marijuana. Let’s understand why.

Under the federal Controlled Substances Act, cannabis is a Schedule I drug. Schedule 1 controlled substances are those which, in the opinion of the United States government have a high potential for abuse and no currently accepted medical use.

And when it comes to our country’s mail delivery services, federal law trumps all other laws of the land. As a result, mailing marijuana is illegal across all modes of mail delivery. This includes private carriers such as FedEx and UPS as well as the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Marijuana and the United States Postal Service

Using USPS

Because the USPS is a federal government agency, it must strictly obey federal guidelines. Using the United States Postal Service to mail weed — even within the territorial limits of California (a pot-legal state) — is a felony under 18 U.S. Code 1716.

However, as U.S. postal workers are federal government employees, they need a warrant based on probable cause in order to search a package for drugs. According to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, “first class letters and parcels are protected against search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, and as such, cannot be opened without a search warrant.”

Since the USPS offers some protection against search and seizure, it can understandably seem to be the safest way to ship marijuana. However, if a package seems suspicious, the USPS can get a search warrant. While this might seem like an acceptable risk, the punishment for mailing drugs through the U.S. mail can include up to a year in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Using UPS or FedEx to Ship Marijuana

Using Third-Party Carriers

Unlike the USPS, private third-party carriers – such as UPS, FedEx and DHL – are not federal agencies. As such, they do not even have to obtain a warrant to search a suspicious package.

Indeed, the Supreme Court has ruled that giving your package to a third-party “removes any reasonable expectation of privacy.” This means that private carriers have the right to open and inspect any package at their own discretion.

Furthermore, large private carriers have affirmed over and over again their willingness to cooperate with federal law enforcement in cracking down on illegal drug trafficking via mail.

For example, in 2014 FedEx was indicted for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances by transporting illegal painkillers and other prescription drugs. And in 2013, UPS paid $40 million to settle a federal probe into shipping drugs from illegal online pharmacies. Though neither of these cases involved cannabis, it shows how big the incentive is for private carriers such as UPS and FedEx to monitor packages for illegal drugs.

Risks of Shipping Weed by Mail

There risks of mailing marijuana are significant. For one thing, you can be charged under either federal law or the law of the state in which the cannabis shipment originated or the state to which it was delivered. Furthermore, charges will be compounded for interstate trafficking as well as based on the quantity of the marijuana. And under federal guidelines, mailing as little as 50 grams or less of marijuana can land in the federal penitentiary for up to five years.

Worsening matters, USPS and private carriers’ employees are offered a “reward” of up to $50,000 for information leading to convictions of persons mailing illegal substances. Even if you are only the recipient of the package, if you knowingly receive marijuana in the mail, your participation in the shipment is enough for you to be charged with conspiracy to distribute an illegal substance.

In sum, postal services are not drug mules. With the rise in the number of states legalizing marijuana, the DEA is now more than ever keeping a close eye on the shipment of packages across the country.

Yes — it is possible to transport your marijuana via mail. It happens every day and people get away with it. But remember, you’re playing the odds. The best advice we can give our clients is not to use the mail to ship your pot. At the very least, mail no more than 28 grams – California’s limit on recreational marijuana possession – and only within the borders of California.

CURING: What Causes A “Grassy” Smell?

I’m wanting to learn what can cause drying flowers to take on a “grass” smell. I grew 3 of these: https://emeraldtriangleseeds.co.uk/pr. mon-haze-auto/ They were planted on May 5th & popped up 6-7 days later. Two out of the three grew much faster & developed faster than the other one. The runt of the 3 seemed to be about 2-3 weeks behind the other two. The runt was the last to show sex, etc. When I harvested, I left the runt to mature another 2-3 weeks.

I am now in the curing process. The first two that I harvested hung for 5 days to dry. A storm was moving in, so I took them down too early. I have been ventilating the curing jars very aggressively. The runt was able to hang & dry for 7 days.

The first two plants smell like my front lawn until you crack them open. Once the dried flower is broken up, it smells great, but sitting in the jar, it smells like grass. The runt plant does not smell like grass. It smells real sweet.

So. Did I harvest the first two plants prematurely, or did I not let them hang & dry long enough?

    Hmmmm . “Grass-Gas” . It’s not very pleasant.
That is the odor of chlorophyll chemically breaking down.
Yes, It’s possible you harvested a little early on the first two. Did you check tricomes before cutting?
I strongly recommend that you use Boveda Humidi-Paks in your curing jars. You can find them here: www.bovedainc.com/

I checked the trichomes the best that I was able with a 30X glass, but was not able to discern any color change. The plants seemed to have plateaued for a couple of weeks & according to the seed description should have been done. I was looking for any signs of cloudiness or amber in the trichomes, but just could not tell. They looked clear as far as I could tell. I let the plants grow longer than the description stated. I also grew 3 White Diesel plants. Same date of planting, harvest & curing. No grass smell.

The grass smell is not as strong as it once was, but it is there. I’d like to avoid it in the future.

could be the early harvest, but in my experience w autos, ive dun a few but know somebody who has done several they all have a distinct green grassy flavor to em a fall back of the ruderalis ditchweed gene that makes it an auto. earlier harvest and dry time probably accentuates it. not to mention if all were from seed the phenos could vary from plant to plant. also if 1 of the first 2 were main culprit but both plants are cured in same jar the other might not be so bad

I had this issue when I first started. Takes practice and patients. You want your buds to be dry going into the curing jars. They will rehydrate so make sure the outsides are crispy. It’s been humid here, the last harvest I hung them in a cool dRk place for 10 days instead of 7 and cured them for 2 weeks.

    Greetings all,
So. Did I harvest the first two plants prematurely, or did I not let them hang & dry long enough?

Nobody can answer your question just like that, you do not tell at what day you harvested and nobody knows how plants looked like. Could be that your stuff is not dry enough, hard to guess. Could be that your ventilating caused some damage.

No matter what happened, just keep buds at 62 RH and cure them for some time. If there is smell inside bud, everything could be OK.

I grow autos, I love them because they do not smell strongly even in flowering, but of course, some of plants which smelled weaker during growth do not smell impressive in jars later on. After 60 days from harvest, they get ready at last, not before, and smell is divine, totally different as was before.

I dry some jars now @day 12, they do not smell very nice, more grassy as usual, but I know perfectly that they will start to release very pleasant odour after 45 days from harvest and not before. Like always.

If you cure properly, you will most probably be very satisfied at the end, but takes some time. 2 months.

@PNW . If the trichomes you observed weren’t showing a little milky/cloudy, then you did a premature harvest.
I would suggest you not put too much stock in the copy provided by the seed breeder and seed banks.
Their veg/flower times should be taken as a rough guide.
It’s highly doubtful that you would be growing the seeds exactly the same way in precisely the same environment, as the breeder.
Therefore one cannot always expect the same response/grow patterns as stated in the ads.
It’s important to remember that each and every plant from seed, is an individual and unique personality, with personal needs and schedules.
LOL . WE don’t run THEM with clocks and calendars . no, they will tell you their needs in their own time .. if you will only listen.

Don’t Let These Marijuana Lookalikes Send You To Jail!

Did you hear about the guy in Georgia who said police raided his home after they mistook the okra he was growing for marijuana? Okra doesn’t look like pot to me, but maybe it does to a cop hovering 60 feet above in a helicopter.

The poor guy thought the police were after his okra plants, but they were actually interested in the plant they really thought was Mary Jane — chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus). Neither he or the cops knew what it was. This just underscores the importance of knowing your plants, so you don’t get hauled off by Miami Vice. Here are four popular plants often mistaken for weed.

Pot Imposter #1 — Chaste tree

Yep, this is what got Mr. Perry into deep doo-doo with those detectives. I sure hope it isn’t a giant marijuana tree, because I took this picture in my front yard. (Hey, you kids, stop stripping the foliage!) Without the flowers, chaste tree does indeed resemble marijuana. The leaves of both are palmately compound with chaste tree’s having 5 to 7 narrow leaflets and Happy Plant’s having 7 to 9. Far from getting you high, chaste tree has the opposite effect, as you might guess from its name. During the Middle Ages, an extract from its seeds was used by monks to decrease libido and remain pure. Maybe they should have just smoked pot.

Pot Imposter #2 — Texas Star

Right after I graduated from college, I lived in an apartment complex where an Asian lady maintained a little garden. Every morning, she was out there watering, weeding, and cultivating. I marveled at her dedication until I figured out what she was growing — pot! The leaves looked just like it. What foolhardiness, I thought, considering that a least a half-dozen cops lived in the complex. Why, I’ll be she brought the seeds with her all the way from Vietnam!

Then the plants bloomed. Huge, star-shaped, scarlet flowers opened up atop the stems. Could this be the infamous “Panama Red?” No, it was a species of native hibiscus related to okra called Texas star (Hibiscus coccineus). I called off the DEA.

Pot Imposter #3 — Japanese Maple

    seedless marijuana

    What Is Sinsemilla?

Even if you pretty well-versed in cannabis culture, you might be a little hazy if someone were to ask you “what is sinsemilla?” unexpectedly. Some describe sinsemilla as simply prime, seedless cannabis flowers that have been tended to with the utmost care, while others swear that true sinsemillas are pure strains of extremely potent marijuana that that hail from either Amsterdam or the American Southwest.

    What does Sinsemilla Mean?

The truth is, the name sinsemilla doesn’t refer to a specific cannabis strain. The term originates from the conjunction of the Spanish words “sin” (which means “without”) and “ semilla ” (which means “seed”) to literally mean “without seeds.” The word has been associated with seedless cannabis flowers since at least the 1970s, with the lack of seeds also spurring a reputation for sinsemilla marijuana as being better, high-quality buds with more intense effects than seed-laced samples of the herb.

In fact, there is evidence to back up this line of thinking, as female cannabis plants that are denied fertilization produce larger amounts of resins with higher concentrations of marijuana’s active compounds since they don’t use any energy making seeds. Many also think that the best sinsemilla marijuana is properly trimmed, dried, and cured so that in addition to being seedless, the flowers look, smell, and taste great. It shouldn’t surprise us then that a decades-long, nation-wide hunt among cannabis users for sweet sinsemilla flowers continues to this day.

    Is Sensimilla Rare?

Today sinsemilla isn’t so rare a thing because it’s easier than ever for growers to make sure crops of cannabis are entirely female with controlled greenhouses, hydroponic techniques, and the ability to get female clones or feminized seeds. Having an indoor environment to grow sinsemilla cannabis is ideal, as plants grown outdoors can be inadvertently fertilized by male plants growing unknown to you beyond your garden and it’s easier to administer special care.

To end, the term “sinsemilla” can be used to describe any female cannabis plants that haven’t been exposed to male plants and fertilized. With this better understanding of what a sinsemilla cannabis plant is, you’ll be able to explain the difference to friends and spot excellent samples on the spot.

There are numerous thoughts about what sinsemilla really is. Find out the truth about the seedless marijuana plants and sinsemilla in this article.

    Buyer’s Guide

Bubblers are interesting and a different way to smoke cannabis. A bubbler falls into the category of a bong but is more intricate and is mostly made of glass. Much like the common bong bubblers feature a mouthpiece, bowl, a stem, and a chamber that holds water for the smoke to travel through. These components cool the smoke and improve your hit in so many ways.

Some bubblers also contain a percolator, an additional water chamber that further cools the smoke. Some models have carb holes that give you a cleaner and faster clearing of smoke. A bubbler can be viewed as a hybrid between a bong and a pipe. These are smaller but have a similar function as bongs, but the shape is similar to a pipe.

Why use a bubbler at all?

You may be a beginner or a pro and decided to choose a bubbler. Why is a bubbler more preferred by users over a pipe or a bong? For one, a bubbler is more portable and can be brought just about anywhere, without causing any commotion. However these could be handled with care most especially because most of these are delicate glass models.

Pipes are indeed very portable but may not be as handy as a bubbler. These don’t offer smokers the smooth and filtered hit of a good smoke because it is processed within a water chamber and a percolator. Another reason a smoker may choose a bubbler is because of the aesthetic design. This is also a factor that makes users turn to bongs.

Bubblers are effective by firing up some weed and getting high however some models also look amazing enough to be used as a collector’s item. A bubbler can improve the setting of a smoke which is much easier to do compared to a bong or pipe. Bongs also serve as an eye-catching centerpiece of any table and will be a good conversational piece among friends.

What are the disadvantages of a bubbler?

There are good sides of using a bubbler and there are downsides as well. The most important thing is maintenance. Unlike bongs, these cannot be taken apart because of the lack of sections and parts. Many bubblers are simple one whole unit. This makes it very hard to clean and cleaning should never be overlooked as this keeps everything hygienic, operational, and aesthetic.

Without removable parts many bubblers cannot be modified or improved by simply adding new pieces and taking other unimportant things away. On the other hand, bongs can be easily modified to work with your special preferences.

    The many types of bubblers

There are a number of bubblers that you can purchase online and from a local shop. For instance hammer bubblers have chambers that have flat bases so you can place these steadily to any flat surface.

There are also pendant bubblers with very creative designs. These can be thread with a piece of string which lets you wear this around your neck a piece of jewelry and a device that lets you smoke cannabis. This unit is ideal for musical events and for camping trips.

Double bubblers provide improved and smoother hits. These come with two chambers where you will find individual percolators. The smoke that comes out from the mouthpiece is both cool and well-filtered. Another kind of bubbler, and is part of our list is the Sherlock Bubblers are very similar to Sherlock pipes. These come with amazing shapes, colors and parts.

    Conclusion

You will surely feel the extreme high when using a bubbler compared to other cannabis smoking equipment. Apart from offering distinct flavors and highs, these are also very decorative and even worthy of being placed in a mantle. Basically the simpler the better, the simpler the design the better you will be able to clean one. So shop well and shop for the best marijuana bubbler online or from a local headshop.
