CBD Inhaler: Can It Help With Asthma?
Asthma has atopic nature. It means one thing – asthma causes an immediate allergic reaction. The inflammation of the airways is caused by this chronic disease, which leads to breathing problems. Asthma also has such symptoms as convulsions and coughing. The patient becomes more vulnerable to allergic reactions due to swelling of the airways and inflammation. Asthma is an awful illness that can make your everyday life much more complicated. Sadly, there hasn’t been found an absolute cure. But you can relieve the pain knowing the answer to «how does an inhaler work».
How can Asthma be Treated with CBD Oil Inhaler?
Some studies have shown that CBD reduces the pain caused by asthma. This is very important because asthma attacks can cause unbearable pain. However, it should be noted that although there are no pain receptors in the lungs, pain is felt due to inability to breathe. Violation of the normal air flow causes additional stress on auxiliary muscles, such as sternocleidomastoid and scalene muscles. CBD inhalers along with CBD bronchodilator relieve this tension and alleviates pain, reducing muscle spasticity and pressure in the lungs.
Cannabis treatment using cannabis inhalers is certified by about 80% of patients with asthma and other diseases of an allergic origin. Treatment is carried out in three ways: externally – with hemp ointments, internally – with hemp oil and by inhaling cannabis smoke or tar with an evaporated evaporator. As an aid, resin of incense or the evaporation of hemp oil is suitable.
Hemp ointment is recommended to rub the chest and neck in case of early acute respiratory stress, at the first sign of constriction in the airways.
If the ointment does not bring relief and the patient feels the attack is approaching, inhaling smoke from the bong, or vapor from the vaporizer, is effective. Then the bronchodilator effect of cannabis will come, which prevents the development of seizures, and the patient will quickly feel as usual.
How to Use CBD Oil for Asthma?
For long-term treatment of asthma, cannabis oil at a dose of 1 teaspoon at night before bedtime, added to a warm drink or spread on a piece of bread, worked very well.
After the first month of cannabis treatment, in agreement with the doctor, one can begin to reduce the consumption of conventional drugs in the treatment of asthma, especially steroids, which are usually poorly tolerated by patients. After prolonged treatment (1-2 years), sometimes you can not only ease asthma, but also reduce the body’s sensitivity to allergens.
For patients who have problems with fat intake, hemp oil can be replaced with hemp powder, which is used in the treatment of glaucoma or Parkinson’s disease.
Can you use CBD oil in a nebulizer? Yes. And inhaling cannabis from the vaporizer, steam should act bronchodilatorically and improve breathing. The advantage is a quick, almost immediate onset of action. In practice, it has been found that for asthmatics it is better to inhale weak cannabis with a THC concentration of 5% than strong varieties that can cause irritation and cough, and have the opposite effect on some patients, causing bronchospasm.
There are scientific reasons for the treatment of cannabis asthma, for example, in the study “Health Aspects of Cannabis – Asthma bronchiale” (“Healthy Aspects of Cannabis – Bronchial Asthma”).
Famous CBD Asthma Studies
Studies of the effects of marijuana on the respiratory system have revealed a bronchodilator effect in healthy volunteers. Volunteers inhaled marijuana smoke containing 85 or 32 micrograms of THC per kilogram of body weight. The group that received the higher doses of THC showed a 38% decrease in resistance, and a 44% increase in airway conductivity. The group that received lower doses of THC had lower, but still significant changes in their normal state. The sensitivity of the respiratory center to CO2 levels was not changed with the consumption of any doses; therefore, no central respiratory depression was recorded.
In another study of patients with asthma, inhalation of methacholine vapor and exercise was used. They were then given a placebo, saline, isoproterenol and a pair of marijuana containing 1 gram of THC. Vapor of marijuana and isoproterenol effectively neutralized both an asthma attack caused by methacholine and physical exercise, while placebo did not affect the improvement.
In another study, placebo-ethanol, 200 μg of THC in ethanol and solbutamol (100 μg) was tested in a group of 10 patients with stable asthmatic syndromes. The study focused mainly on measuring one second of lung capacity, FEV and Peak Flow Rate. THC and solbutamol significantly improved lung function. The improvement was faster with solbutamol, but the effect of these two drugs ended an hour after application.
Delta-8 and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol have a bronchodilator effect, although neither cannabinol nor cannabidiol have this effect. It follows that only the psychoactive component of marijuana is able to produce the desired effect. Within 20 days of the study, addiction to THC was not recorded. The treatment of asthma is a chronic effect, in connection with this it is necessary to conduct studies on the tolerance of exposure.
The most suitable dosage form for the treatment of asthma, THC in an aerosol. However, there are obscure effective doses that cause mental effects. The mechanism by which THC increases bronchial lung obstruction differs from conventional beta-adrenergic stimulants. This can be used with an advantage in the development of resistance after repeated use of beta-adrenergic stimulants, which occurs in many patients with asthma.
Asthma is a very tricky disease which causes pain and many unpleasant symptoms, that’s why the scientists always try to find the best solution. The results of many modern studies prove that targeting cannabinoid receptors may be a new preventive therapeutic strategy for patients with asthma.
