Friday Feature: 1942 Hemp for Victory

At the recent 850 Hemp Summit in Marianna, organizers encouraged participants to watch a historic short film that highlights the versatility of industrial hemp. This week’s featured video is Hemp for Victory, produced by USDA to promote Hemp farming in the US as part of the war effort. The goal was to boost hemp production from 14,000 acres in 1942 to 300,000 acres in 1943. The film provides a comparison of the old techniques to the modern techniques and machinery recommended for production, harvest and processing back in 1943. Now that rules are being developed to make hemp farming legal again, it is really interesting to go back to the time when hemp farming was a patriotic call to action to support the troops in World War II.
